The Largest Science Center in the Western Hemisphere
The Museum of Science and Industry is one of Chicago’s most popular museum and it’s just 5 minutes from the Chicago Lake Shore Hotel. The hotel offers a free scheduled shuttle to the museum throughout the day. You are also within two blocks of public transportation that runs every few minutes to the museum.
Your visit to The Museum of Science and Industry could easily fill a full day and entertain family members of all ages. There is a U-505 Submarine that you can board and a Coal Mine that you can visit to witness how coal is extracted from inside the earth! The Great Train Story nearly fills the lower level of the museum and shows off a miniature landscape of Chicago. It is one of the most impressive train layouts you will ever see. The Idea Factory is a hands on play area for kids under 8. The Water Spectacle and pressurized air chambers continue to fascinate young minds visit after visit. The Mirror Maze is so much fun that your kids won’t even know they are learning about Numbers in Nature. The maze has an interactive exhibit about patterns in the human body at the end of the maze.
The Chicago Transit Authority has a helpful website called the RTA Trip Planner to provide specific instructions about which bus or train to take and where to catch it.
