Chicago International Film Festival

Come celebrate the 59th anniversary of the Chicago International Film Festival, October 9-23, in River North, and stay at the nearby and affordable Chicago Lake Shore Hotel!

What do Martin Scorsese, Peter Weir, Mike Leigh, Wim Wenders and Bertrand Tavernier have in common? Their first directed films were presented at the Chicago International Film Festival! In 2013 the festival presented 125 films from 55 countries.

This year’s Chicago International Film Festival presents: “Ablations.” A pharmaceutical representative wakes up to find one of his kidneys has been removed, and sets off on a journey to find out what happened. “The Babadook.” This Australian horror film is about a mother whose son is terrorized by a two dimensional character from a picture book. “Black Coal, Thin Ice,” is a Chinese film noir in which an ex cop discovers a gruesome murder. And there are many more exceptional films.

On Wednesday, October 16, the great actor, Chicago’s own Bruce Dern, will appear at a screening of last year’s Oscar nominated film, “Nebraska.” This writer has seen the film and considers it to be an incredibly moving work of American cinema. It is not to be missed.

The Chicago International Film Festival’s main theater is the AMC River East 21, at 322 East Illinois Street. For tickets, call (312) 332-3456. For a listing of films and events, go to www.chicagofilmfestival.com.
