Chicago Jazz Festival

The Chicago Jazz Festival is one of the premiere music events in the entire world! The festival, presented on four stages in and around Grant Park, brings together living jazz greats and pays homage to the legends that have passed!

Here are highlights of this year’s Chicago Jazz Festival: Three, count ’em, three centennial celebrations for Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonius Monk, and Ella Fitzgerald, all born in the year 1917, and all among the pantheon of jazz greats. There will also be a 90th birthday celebration for Chicago guitarist George Freeman and a jazz tribute to the poet Carl Sandburg (“the city of big shoulders”).

Scheduled performers: Jazz pianist Erwin Helfer; Orbert Davis; electric band Magic Carpet; Nate Lepine Quartet (influenced by Miles Davis); J. D. Allen Trio; Bad Plus channels Ornette Coleman; Norman Simmons Trio (backed Charlie Parker); and the list goes on.
