Science in the Field: Films Versus Facts

Take a field trip with the Field Museum to see classic movies at the beautifully restored Music Box Theatre and stay at the nearby and affordable Chicago Lake Shore Hotel!

The Field Museum presents Science in the Field, as scientists and researchers explain the truth and accuracy behind movie depictions of archaeology and biology. The Music Box Theatre is one of the great venues at which to see films. Go early just to enjoy the ambience of this old time movie palace. Tickets are only ten dollars!

Sunday, November 9, at 12 noon, the Music Box Theatre shows “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” the cult classic starring Harrison Ford as archaeologist Indiana Jones. Is “Indy” a true depiction of an archaeologist? Bill Parkinson, Associate Curator of Eurasian Anthropology, will lead a post movie discussion.

On Wednesday, December 3 at 7:30 pm, the Music Box Theatre shows “Jaws,” in its day one of the scariest movies around. A great white shark goes berserk and eats a lot of teenagers off the coast of New England. We suspect that Kevin Feldheim, a manager of the Pritzker Laboratory for Molecular Systematics and Evolution at the FieldMuseum, may take a pro shark point of view. Is it wrong to eat teenagers? You’ll find out.

The Music Box Theatre is located at 3733 North Southport in Chicago. Reserve your tickets online at www.musicboxtheatre.com/events.
