Witches, Winds and Whirls Concert

Bring the family to see the Witches, Winds and Whirls concert at the University of Chicago’s Mandel Hall October 28, and stay at the nearby and affordable Chigo Lake Shore Hotel!

The Witches, Winds and Whirls concert brings together the wonderful University of Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Hyde Park School of Dance for an unforgettable seasonal favorite! The program provides “spooky” (not scary enough to alarm small children) music with dance from one of the city’s premiere dance programs. The program is for all ages!

Howling winds and stormy skies form the backdrop for over 100 costumed musicians. The performance will include storytelling and special effects – including a distinctive, thematic entrance by costumed conductor, Barbara Schubert. Dancers from the Hyde Park School of Dance will move to the sounds of the symphony, adding to the evening’s entertainment.

The program will include: Witches’ Ride from Humperdinck’s Hansel and Gretel; The Noonday Witch – Antonín Dvořák; The Storm – Tchaikovsky; Salome’s Dance of the Seven Veils – Strauss; and Music from Wicked.

Mandel Hall is located at 1131 E. 57th Street, on the University of Chicago campus. Admission is free. Donations of $10 for adults and $5 for students and children are welcome.
